Safe Theatres Policy

The ITA has created its Safe Theatres Policy to aid Member Clubs in providing the best possible rehearsal and performance environment for all cast, crew, creatives, and other volunteers working in community theatre: one that is based on goodwill and respect and that is a safe space for all involved.

We encourage all Member Clubs to implement the recommendations of the Safe Theatres Policy. Further resources to aid Member Clubs will be made available here when they are available.

Intimacy Guidelines

We recommend following these guidelines when a production requires intimacy. Member Clubs should consider adopting these guidelines as standard practice and ensure Directors have access to resources such as these guidelines to implement throughout the production. If you are a participant in community theatre and are unsure what processes your club has in place, speak to your Club Committee and ask whether they have adopted the ITA’s Intimacy Guidelines.

Working With Children Check – Template Policy

At the request of members the ITA engaged Creative Legal, a well respected arts law firm, to interpret the legislation for community theatre and develop a Working With Children Policy Template for use by ITA members.

The template will need to be used exactly as that: a template for you to develop a policy that is reflective of your organisation.

This Policy does not cover in detail the process of obtaining or administering WWC Checks, and the club may develop other policies to cover other aspects of WWC Checks, including when to revise this Policy.

This Policy is also not to be relied on as constituting legal advice on the club’s obligations under the Act, and should any issues arise in making any assessment or decision under the Act or for WWC Checks, the club will seek its own legal advice (including from any other body) to make that assessment or decision.
